Mahasin Munir, Sol
Mahasin is an energetic, charismatic, multi-dimensional performer originally from Chicago with long-time roots in Oakland, CA. She started her performance career in a drag troupe called Nappy Grooves (2004) and went on to star in numerous theater productions including Walk Like A Man (directed by Lorinda Brown) and Voices In Color (directed by Kiki Poe).
Her breakout into film came in 2009 with Sista Chronicles (directed by Erin Wood), followed by The Postwoman (directed by Jamie Walker) in 2011, both of which premiered at Frameline, the SF International LGBTQ Film Festival. She has since graced Frameline screens for the past five years - and counting.
She has since trained with Dan Flapper at the American Conservatory Theatre, and with Giovannie Espiritu of SF Actors Studio.
Mahasin's most current work as includes playing the suave DJ Sol in DYKE CENTRAL, and Guest Starring in the Wachowski's new Netflix series, SENSE8, set to be released later in 2015.
When she's not charming audiences onscreen, Mahasin can be found working at the Arizmendi cooperative bakery, or creating healing mixtures with her essential oil business, Mahasinscents.
